THE ART IN TRIORA

 

Triora, with its vaults, its lanes, small roads crossing each other, very high houses, big buildings, unfortunately abandoned, it is all to be seen. Much notable the slate Portals, on which have been engraved Jesus Triagramm, the Annunciation, and other mysterious pictures. Among the other masterpieces there is an important Baptism of Christ, by Taddeo di Bartolo from Siena: created in 1397, it’s the oldest masterpiece about this category of Liguria di Ponente (western Ligurian Riviera).

In the Church of Saint Bernardino there are visible Frescoes attributed at Giovanni Canavesio from Pinerolo. Our Merciful Lady, engraved by Paolo Bernard Olivari from Genoa and kept in the Church of Saint Agostino, is very celebrated. Together with many other masterpieces of Triora’s Artists like Maragliano, Gastaldi and Cambiaso.

The Castle, and the Church of Saint Caterina show the importance and the influence of the Genoa’s jurisdiction of Podestà.
